Hi everyone! 👋 First and foremost: **Song House exists to give people permission to be honest with themselves.** Burn that into your brains. There will be a quiz. (There will not be a quiz.) Quick heads up: this platform is a work in progress. Instead of going with Skool, I spent the last three weeks building the Song House platform myself, and I'll be submitting the Song House app to the App Store this week. Can't wait to see where this leads! ➡️ **OUR FIRST TASK AS A COMMUNITY: THE KICK OFF CALL** Monday, August 3rd at 11AM CT. If you can't make it, the recorded conversation will be in the Classroom. Assuming I learn how to post it. LOL. We'll talk through the plans and expectations for what's in store, and get to know some of the community a bit more. Then on August 10th, we kick off our **Story Songs**. Some of the most important songs you'll ever write. **NOW WHAT?** ➡️ **STEP 1: INTRODUCE YOURSELF** ✍️ Head to the Feed, hit "Write something," and introduce yourself from the heart. Tell us: 1. Your name 2. Where you're from 3. When you lay your head down at night and you can't sleep, what is THE ONE thing you can't stop thinking about? ➡️ **STEP 2: GO MEET SOMEBODY** 🤝 Find someone else's post and leave a real comment. Something thoughtful, honest, and encouraging. The kind of thing that actually starts a relationship. ➡️ **STEP 3: MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR MONDAYS AT 11AM CT** Weekly Q&As with me and/or some of the team. Every call is recorded for anyone who can't make it, and everything lands on your Calendar tab. ➡️ **ABOUT THE CLASSROOM** 🎓 Courses and trainings are coming. But right now, I want to get to know you and learn the biggest hurdles you're actually facing. Your struggles are the blueprint. ➡️ **THE HOUSE RULES** ❤️ This room only works if we protect it. So first, the honest truth: 1. **Song House will not save you.** What I've learned over the last five years is that some people will excel and some people will be upset. Upset with the system, upset with me, and looking for something to blame. So here's your heads up now: Song House will not save you. 2. **Opportunities are not guaranteed.** If you're ever invited to a Song House event in Nashville, it's because we see something exceptional in you, and that doesn't disqualify anybody else in this space. Spots are earned, never owed. 3. **You are responsible** for what you do with what you learn here and the relationships you build here. If you work hard, this space should help you. You are responsible for your career. I wish there were a shortcut. There isn't. I checked. 4. **Song House is a safe place for a season.** Some will stay for years, some for weeks. Nothing is forced on you. You always have a choice to come and go. 5. **If you stick with it, you'll become a better artist.** That one I can actually promise. 6. **I promise honest feedback.** Dishonesty does no service to anybody. If you ask me what I think, I will tell you the truth. 7. **We will get it wrong sometimes.** I can promise you that too. 8. **It's messy here.** These are real people, and people are messy. I've seen people thrive in this space, and I've seen people get hurt in it. We do our best to keep this community thriving. If it's not for you, it's not for you, and you can dip out any time. No hard feelings. And the ground rules: 1. **No self promotion.** None. This is about the journey, full stop. 2. **We're not here to fix anybody or hand out advice.** If you have something that might help, share it as your own story, not as a lesson aimed at someone else. 3. **If you think someone genuinely wants feedback, ask permission first.** 4. **This is not a place to feel judged or condemned.** It's a place to support and encourage. If your feedback isn't mixed with love, you're out. I'm serious about that, because the magic only happens when people feel safe. 5. **Be authentic.** This is the big one. 95% of the time, people can tell when a comment is real and when someone is just dropping words to be seen. Be the real one. ➡️ **A WORD ABOUT MY FEEDBACK** 🎙️ I'm going to be very honest with you. I'm a coach at heart. I will always give it in love and kindness, but I will give it to you straight, because that's what actually helps. I also don't have all the answers, and I will never pretend to. ➡️ **ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES** ⭐ You'll hear about Song House opportunities, and I want to be honest about that from day one. Nobody is owed a call up, and I'm not going to dangle one to keep you here. It takes a lot of work, a lot of dedication, and a lot of consistency. If you show up consistently and you're genuinely writing great songs and telling great stories, you'll get flagged as someone to watch. But right now, today, we're all standing on the same line. Every one of us is figuring out how we want to be artists and creatives. Don't worry about being chosen. Worry about being consistent and being true.
